Melbourne Swallowing Clinics provide comprehensive evaluations and management of Dysphagia and related swallowing and feeding disorders, so as to improve the quality of life for our clients.

Our clinical team comprises of Speech Pathologists, Radiologist, Dietician/Nutritionist and Occupational Therapists with consulting Gastroenterology and Ear, Nose and Throat medical specialists.

Swallowing problems, also known as dysphagia, (dis-fay-juh), and feeding difficulties can impact at any age and can occur at any stage of the swallowing process.

Paediatric Dysphagia may arise from:
  • Prematurity and associated low birth weight
  • Developmental delay
  • Cerebral Palsy and associated muscle and reflex weakness
  • Paediatric stroke or neurological illness
  • Behavioural disturbances
  • Head injury
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

Adult Dysphagia may arise from:
  • Age related changes
  • Stroke or other forms of acute neurological change
  • Head Injury
  • Head and neck cancers
  • Inflammatory or infective processes
  • Reflux Oesophagitis
  • Radiation therapy to the neck and chest
  • Heart surgery or other chest surgery which may result in vocal cord weakness.
  • Trauma to the throat or larynx
  • Tracheostomy tubes
  • Degenerative or progressive neurological disorders as in Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson`s disease or Lou Gehrig`s disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis)
  • Pharyngeal or esophageal sacs or pouches (diverticulum) and narrowing (stenosis)
  • Psychological : Fear or anxiety

Our clinics are located throughout Melbourne, close to public transport with ample onsite parking and disability access. Assessments are conducted at our clinics, however if indicated, home, hospital and aged care assessments can be arranged. Please discuss your particular needs with our Practice Manager.
